Guidelines for E-gallery Listings

MSCrafts.org

E-gallery listings are open to all members in good standing of the Craftsmen’s Guild of Mississippi. One goal of the E-gallery is to have every artist represented, but like creating a piece of fine craft, it takes a considerable amount of time.  Time to choose the merchandise, photograph the piece, digitally edit the photo, upload it to the gallery and write a description for each piece listed.  Once a piece is purchased, it must be packaged  securely, weighed, a shipping label must be created and printed, affixed to the box and shipped.

In order to make the most efficient use of the gallery staff’s time, the following guidelines are considered in placing work on the gallery.

Desirable pieces for E-gallery listings include:

1. Work that can be produced in multiples that will allow several items to be sold from the same photo and listing description.

2. Pieces that are easy to ship

3. One-of-a-kind items that have a significant enough gallery commission to justify time spent listing the item.  (Items with a retail price around $200 or more are favorable.)

4. Items accompanied by good-quality, Internet ready, photos of the item (professional photography not necessary) in digital format. With the following parameters: resolution of 72 dpi, measuring not longer than 8 inches or 575 pixels in its longest dimension, with a black, gray, white or other neutral background. *

5. Items accompanied by a written description in electronic format such as Microsoft Word document (.doc) or Notepad (.txt). *

* submitting your own photos or descriptions is not required, but will certainly expedite listing process.

Larger items that would be very costly or difficult to ship are not automatically excluded from being listed, but may be listed as a “gallery pick-up only” type listing.

Another consideration is that listing of an item in the E-gallery may require that the piece be removed from the gallery floor to prevent the possibility of an item selling online and in the retail gallery in a time frame that could result in an undeliverable sale.  Remember that the E-gallery is open 24 hours, and it is possible that an item could sell on a Friday night online and over the weekend in the retail gallery and no longer be available to ship on Monday.  This would result in a negative experience for the online customer. Removal from the retail gallery may not be necessary in every case, but would be at the discretion of the gallery staff.

The E-gallery is a great addition to the Craftsmen’s Guild.  Keeping these guidelines in mind will help make the entire process a positive experience for the Guild’s craftsman, the gallery staff and customers.
